Gary Rydstrom is a film sound designer, mixer, and director. At Skywalker Sound, Gary has created sound for numerous films, including Terminator 2, Jurassic Park, Toy Story, Titanic, Saving Private Ryan, Star Wars: Episode I, Punch-Drunk Love, Finding Nemo, Ad Astra, and West Side Story. He has been nominated for an Academy Award 20 times and has won seven Oscars for Sound. He has received Career Achievement Awards from both the Cinema Audio Society and Motion Picture Sound Editors. For Pixar, he directed two short films, the Oscar-nominated Lifted, and Toy Story Toons: Hawaiian Vacation. In 2015, Gary directed the Disney/Lucasfilm animated musical Strange Magic. In collaboration with composer Mason Bates, Gary directed the Grammy-winning concert/film production Philharmonia Fantastique. Gary is co-author with Gianluca Sergi of The Endless End of Cinema, which uses the history of Hollywood crises to argue that traditional cinema will never die.
