Bio

Onnalee Blank stands as the most awarded female sound professional in history, boasting an impressive collection of 5 Emmys and 7 CAS Awards, primarily for her seminal work on HBO’s epic series Game of Thrones. A masterful re-recording mixer and supervising sound editor, Blank's extraordinary talents will next be showcased in Netflix’s The Piano Lesson and Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King.

A frequent collaborator with visionary director Barry Jenkins, Blank’s expertise has shaped the sonic landscapes of critically acclaimed projects, including the Best Picture Oscar-winning Moonlight and the Emmy-nominated The Underground Railroad (MPSE Award). Her credit list reflects a deep loyalty and dedication to directors who are not just colleagues but also trusted friends. This close-knit collaboration allows her creative expression to flow with unparalleled authenticity and emotional depth.

With a career spanning over 100 film and television projects, Blank has demonstrated her versatility across various genres. Whether crafting the soundscapes of major tentpole features (Birds of Prey, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Godzilla vs. Kong), delicate dramas (If Beale Street Could Talk, Christopher Robin), or naturalistic comedies (Booksmart, I Feel Pretty), her unique background as a professional ballerina enriches her work with a deep understanding of musicality, grace, and emotion.

Onnalee’s journey into the world of sound began after a car accident ended her dance career at the age of 21. Relocating to Los Angeles, she quickly ascended from making coffee to engineering records, spending several years under the mentorship of legendary producer Rick Rubin. During this time, she contributed to iconic projects like Johnny Cash’s final albums and Jay-Z’s "99 Problems." An introduction to Danny Elfman led to her first foray into film score recording and engineering, where she worked on celebrated films such as Corpse Bride and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. This pivotal experience eventually transitioned her career into re-recording mixing and sound supervision.

Onnalee is a proud member of MPSE and CAS, where she previously served on the board of directors.
