Since 2001, Montaño has called Universal home, mixing dozens of features in the Alfred Hitchcock Theater including 300, Straight Outta Compton, Nobody, The Italian Job, Star Trek Beyond, and Elizabethtown. Prior to Universal, Frank Montaño began his career as an engineer at Cannon Films working his way into the re-recording mix chair in 1987. Soon after, Montaño’s career path led him to Warner Hollywood, where he mixed iconic feature films such as The Fugitive, Under Siege , Clear and Present Danger and Batman Forever.

In 2021, the NBCUniversal Campus Project started their renovation on the front lot and the historic Hitchcock Theater was taken down to allow for new screening rooms, but not before a new stage was constructed and engineered as the new Hitchcock Mixing Stage. Hitting every mark on the wish list for both the mixers and the filmmakers, The Hitchcock Mixing Stage opened in 2022, to the likes of amazing directors such as Guillermo Del Toro on the Netflix feature Pinocchio, Director David Leitch for The Fall Guy, Adam Wingard for Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire , and Louis Leterrier for the latest installment in the Universal Fast & Furious Franchise, Fast X: Part 1 , to name a few.

Montaño has received numerous CAS awards, a BAFTA award, and is a nine time Academy Award nominee for Best Sound for feature films including titles such as First Man, The Revenant, Unbroken, Birdman : The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance, The Fugitive, Wanted, and Batman Forever.
