Paul Hackner is an Emmy-nominated sound designer and re-recording mixer with over 20 years of experience shaping the sound of more than 150 films, series, and documentaries. Born in South Africa, raised in Los Angeles, and educated at Emory University, Paul has built a career that bridges Hollywood blockbusters, independent films, and television.

His credits span a wide range of acclaimed projects, including The Gorge, Drive, Sinister, Chicago Fire, Insidious: Chapter 3, The Revenant, Too Old to Die Young, Stephen King’s It, The Black Phone, and DreamWorks Animation’s Trolls franchise. Recently, he was nominated for Best Sound Editing for Apple TV+’s The Gorge and completed supervising and mixing Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie, featuring Kristin Wiig and Laila Lockhart.

Equally committed to independent filmmaking, Paul has collaborated on projects such as the award-winning documentary The Garden, Asia Argento’s Misunderstood, Much Ado About Nothing, The American Society of Magical Negroes, Terrifier 3, and P!nk: All I Know So Far.

He lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Angela, and their son, Ari.
