Steven A. Morrow is a three-time Academy Award nominated sound mixer who has contributed to nearly 150 film and television projects. He is known for his creative solutions on technically challenging movies. Morrow has collaborated on several high profile and acclaimed films where sound has played a critical role in the storytelling. His first Academy and BAFTA nominations came for his work on Damien Chazelle’s multi-nominated film LaLaLand starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. The film was an incredible feat for all departments including sound with live records of Emma Stone and an incredible opening scene where dancers danced through traffic on a Los Angeles freeway, Morrow created a system to keep all dancers in sync with each other and the camera. His second nomination was for his work on Bradley Cooper’s directorial debut, A Star is Born in which all vocals for music were recorded live during production. The film received Academy Award and BAFTA nominations for Best Sound Mixing, the CAS Award for Feature Film Sound. Morrow also received a double platinum record for his work on the soundtrack which included song vocals and dialogue recorded during filmmaking.
Morrow’s most recent projects include Olivia Wilde’s directorial debut Don’t Worry Darling, Jason Reitman’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife, James Mangold’s Ford Vs. Ferrari, and Cathy Yan’s Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn.) He frequently collaborates with filmmakers on multiple projects including Jason Reitman on the films Ghostbusters: Afterlife, The Front Runner, Labor Day, Up in the Air and Thank You for Smoking and Clint Eastwood on films The Mule, and 15:17 To Paris. Upcoming credits include Bradley Cooper’s Maestro, Blitz Bazawule’s The Color Purple, and Damien Chazelle’s Babylon. Past credits include Little Miss Sunshine, You’re Not You, Get on Up, The Lincoln Lawyer, Draft Day and many other film and television projects.
