Santiago Núñez was born in Mexico City in 1971 in Mexico City. He is the son of a very well known actress, which fueled Santiago's desire to work in film. He began his career working sound utility while still in high school. His first titles were Titanic, Cronos, Danzón among other movies. In 1995 he studied in the School of Sound and Image in Madrid Spain, and began working as a Production Sound Mixer upon his return to Mexico.
In the years since then he has worked national and international projects such as on Herod's Law, by the acclaimed Mexican director Luis Estrada, Frida, Comandante, Cronicas, Bandidas, Nacho Libre, Under the Same Moon,The Juror ,Species The Awakening, Vantage Point, A Beverly Hills Chihuahua, Barb and Star goes to Vista Del Mar, The Crime of Father Amaro, Sin Nombre, The City of your Final Destination, Daniel y Ana, The 33, Rudo y Cursi. He worked most recently on BARDO, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths.
Some directors he has worked with are Cary Joji Fukunaga, Stone,James Ivory, Carlos Caron,Diego Luna, James Cameron, Julie Taymor,Jared Hess, Alejandro González Iñárritu, Luc Besson, Sebastián Cordero, Felipe Casalz, Luis Estrada among others.
Santiago is a four time nominee and two time winner of the Mexican Academy Award Silver Ariel for Best Sound. In 2015, he also received a nomination for a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Limited Series for Texas Rising.
He is an active member of the Mexican Academy of Arts and Cinematography, and a member of the American Television Academy. Right now he is finishing the series La Maquina, the launch of Hulu to the Latin America audience.The series is produced by Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna.
