Ken Yasumoto was born in 1971 in Paris.He was raised in Tokyo until he was 17 years old and then went to Paris after high school.
After mathematics studies and graduating from the Louis Lumière cinema school he started his career as a boom operator on Leos Carax and Luc Besson’s film.
Ken’s first film as a sound editor is Luc Besson’s Joan of Arc. He received the MPSE Golden Reel Award for the best sound editing on a foreign feature.
He worked as a production sound mixer, sound designer, supervising sound editor, and/or re-recording mixer on more than 40 films such as Oliver Stone’s Alexander, Louis Letterier’s The Transporter, Christophe Gans’ Silent Hill, Alexandre Aja’s Oxygen or Michel Hazanavicius’ Coupez!.
His main artistic collaboration is with the director Gaspar Noe. He started working with Noe on Enter the Void (2009) until now on Vortex (2022). On Gaspar Noe’s films Ken is in charge of the full sound process, from the production sound recording to the final mix.
Since 2021 Ken has been a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.His last work as a sound designer and re-recording mixer is Bardo from Alejandro G. Inarritu.
