Paul Massey has been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Achievement in Sound Mixing nine times, winning for Bohemian Rhapsody. His other Oscar nominations were for Ford v Ferrari, The Martian (one of his many movies for director Ridley Scott), 3:10 to Yuma, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, Walk the Line, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, Air Force One, and Legends of the Fall.

The Cinema Audio Society (CAS) will be honoring him in March 2022 with its Career Achievement Award. He was won four CAS Awards over the years, for Bohemian Rhapsody and Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, as well as for Ford v Ferrari and Walk the Line; the latter two projects are among several films that he has done with director James Mangold.

A native of the UK, Mr. Massey has won four BAFTA Awards; these were for Bohemian Rhapsody, Walk the Line, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, and Almost Famous. While still a teenager, he emigrated to Toronto and began working in the sound field, recording and mixing albums and commercials with musicians. He then segued to live tours, concert films, and IMAX productions, winning five Gemini Awards including for the telefilm Sword of Gideon.

In addition to the above-mentioned features, Mr. Massey’s dozens of movies as re-recording mixer have included multiple X-Men and Deadpool titles, Jerry Maguire, The Greatest Showman, Nixon, and the upcoming Morbius.
