Robert Mackenzie has been enriching the Australian film community with his creative and award-winning soundscapes for over twenty-five years. He began his apprenticeship under the direct tutelage of Australia’s most distinguished and celebrated mixer; the UK transplant, Roger Savage. This is where Rob learned to approach the soundtrack as a single entity; acknowledging and appreciating each aspect (mixing, sound design, and editing, as well as budgeting and staff management), all with equal importance. Robert has completed soundtracks for some of the world’s most influential directors, such as Mel Gibson, David Michôd, Wayne Blair, Guillermo Del Toro, Jane Campion, Wong Kar Wai, Fred Schepisi, John Woo, Zhang Yimou, and Garth Davis, just to name a few. His soundtracks have garnered numerous accolades from just about every prestigious source both in Australia and Internationally. In addition to feature films, Rob has also had the good fortune to work some first rate television series such as Deadline Gallipoli; for which he won an AACTA for Sound, The Kettering Incident, and Top Of The Lake. In 2017 Robert brought home the Oscar, the Motion Picture Sound Editor’s Guild (MPSE) Award and Australia’s AACTA for his work on Hacksaw Ridge, in addition to receiving the AACTA for Sound Design for Lion. This year he won an AACTA for Sound Design on Breath and Mixing on Mountain, and an ASSG for Sound Design on Peter Rabbit. Most recently Rob has completed work on The Nightingale, Judy and Punch, and Top End Wedding. He most recently worked on David Michôd’s medieval epic, The King and Jane Campion’s The Power of the Dog
